Defining a daily routine is one of the best ways to achieve your goals and maintain a work-life balance. Instead of trying to redefine a whole new daily schedule by reshuffling the morning rush, daily to-dos, and various evening activities, adopt a quick and simple self-care practice to start your day. That way you give to yourself first before giving yourself up to the daily grind.
We love this routine because it can take as much time as you can commit and be done anywhere. The concept is simple; dedicate a small portion of time to you at the start of your day. That means before you connect with your family or friends, your phone, work emails, Instagram, your daily news, and everything in between. It’s all about you.
TIP! Start your day at the same(ish) time every day. This will help you establish a healthy sleeping pattern and is known to actually help you sleep better!
- Your Mind Matters: Start your routine by calming your mind. Meditate on your own or guided through an app, read a few pages of morning mantras, journal about what you’re grateful for, or simply ‘be’ while listening to your favorite calming playlist.
- Move Your Body: You’ve got to get moving, but we don’t mean hitting the gym. Get on your yoga mat and stretch, go on a walk around the block to soak up that vitamin D. Just move your body enough to awaken yourself and get the blood flowing.
- Nourish & Rehydrate: As this is the first thing entering our body after sleep, it’s important that we get some of that “liquid gold,” aka water, back into our bodies. Drink water with lemon, a glass of room temperature water, whatever works. And the key is to keep it going throughout the first few hours of each day. You can even include sparkling waters like L8 if you want to add in a dose of calm, as the level of a drink’s carbonation doesn’t impact how much it hydrates you.
Getting yourself into a simple but beneficial daily routine is important to start the day off right. If you can dedicate the first 30 minutes of every day to yourself, your mind and body will thank you for it.
